Warranty Policy

Our Prime Objective

To deliver to you within the range we provide, a Product, be it the information, the services, the packages or the shop content available to you, our customer, that will be to the satisfaction for the purpose/s you selected and paid for.

The purchaser, the DIY enthusiast and we as supplier and installer of our product range acknowledge that we are not the manufacturers of these products and we as suppliers of these products are purchasing it from 3rd part manufacturers and all products shall be subject to these manufacturer’s specifications and we as the supplier do not make any representation regarding those specifications and cannot be held responsible for any damage suffered or loss incurred as a result of a defective or unsafe product supplied.

We as suppliers do provide assistance with any warranty for all your installation products purchased from us and installed by yourself as a DIY intervention or installed by us as we want you to experience it performing its intended purpose, adventure after adventure and year after year.

All warranties for all equipment used in our services, packages or online shop come directly from the manufacturers and we as the supplier of the products will in the event of a malfunction, want you to have peace of mind that we will make sure you get assisted with your warranty if you are within the warranty period, followed the recommended installation guidelines that the manufacturers provide and used a qualified electrician and/or electrical installer to do the installation so that it shall comply with all the required electrical legislation and regulations and have a Certificate of Compliance issued where required.

Product warranties range from a few months up to 10 Years with the optional extended warranties available and performance warranties can reach up to 30 years and we will provide this information with the products that we sell and install and it will reflect what the manufacturer of the product supplies.

Our Installation/Workmanship Warranty is from six months to 3 Years depending on the level of interaction and assistance with the DIY installations completed and all exclusive kalaharigrid installation will be subject to an annual inspection and certificate of compliance to the electrical integrity of the installation which will then be compared to the initial certificate to confirm any deteriorating trends and changes in the installation.

Note: this is done so that we as the product supplier can provide assistance with any warranty for any of your installation products purchased from us and installed by a qualified electrical person/s  and yourself as a DIY intervention or solely installed by us, because we want you to experience the products performing its intended purpose, adventure after adventure and year after year.

General Conditions For a Warranty Claims

  1. All warranties will be handled by Kalaharigrid in the event of a failure and only products supplied and purchased from us, be it from the shop or part of an installation completed by us. We keep record of all the product serial numbers and only products with serial numbers corresponding to our history will be attended to.
  2. Warranty claims must in all events be filed within the Warranty Period for the specified product.
  3. Warranty claims may only be made by the original purchaser as named in the invoice and any current owner of the product can claim upon satisfactory proof of transfer from the original purchaser as named in the invoice at purchase  – as in the case of selling an RV or have a system removed and re-installing that system somewhere else and to the original specifications.
  4. When PV Modules are used on a mobile platform of any type, such as a RV or any other vehicle, the Warranty Period shall be limited to 5 years unless contradicted by the manufacturer of specific PV modules manufactured for mobile installations.
  5. During any product replacement, the warranted product must be handed to Kalaharigrid to keep until the Original Equipment Manufacturer conducted their own tests before destroying their units.

Limitations on Warranties

The various product manufacturers have different Warranty clauses and each product manufacturer or brand will provide the limitations for their products and it does not apply to any other manufacturer or brand. Below are some extracts from the various larger product warranty clauses and the complete warranty clause for each product manufacturer will be available with any purchase made or installation done.

Victron “Energy. Anytime. Anywhere.”

Victron Energy warrants its products to be free from defects in workmanship and materials for a period of 5 years from the date of purchase by the original end-user, with a maximum of 66 months from the Victron Energy invoice date. Exceptions on this are: lead-acid batteries: 2 years from date of purchase by the original end-user, with a maximum of 30 months from the Victron Energy invoice date, Lithium batteries: 3 years from date of purchase by the original end-user, with a maximum of 42 months from the Victron Energy invoice date. In addition to this, proof of correct battery usage is required when making a battery warranty claim.

For a 10% surcharge on the current net price for products that came with a 5-year warranty, an additional 5 years of warranty can be purchased by Victron’s direct customers, bringing the total warranty to 10 years. Warranty extensions need to be applied for ultimately one year before the expiration of the original term. Victron may ask proof that the product was still functional at the time of purchase of the extended warranty.

During the warranty period, Victron Energy will, at its discretion, repair, replace or (partly) credit the defective product free of charge. The warranty does not include performing or reimbursing de‐installation, transportation, and re‐installation. This warranty will be considered void if the unit has suffered any physical damage or alteration, either internally or externally, and does not cover damages arising from improper use like Reversed battery polarity.

  • Inadequate connection.
  • Mechanical shock or deformation.
  • Contact with liquid or oxidation by condensation.
  • Use in an inappropriate environment (dust, corrosive vapour, humidity, high temperature, biological infestation, etc.).
  • Breakage or damage due to lightning.
  • Connection terminals and screws destroyed or other damages, like overheating, due to insufficient tightening.
  • For any electronic breakage except due to lightning (reverse polarity, over‐voltage due to external cause), the state of the internal control diode and/or the input/output X and Y capacitors determine the warranty.

This warranty will not apply where the product has been misused, neglected, improperly installed, or repaired by anyone other than Victron Energy or one of its authorized Repair Centres. In order to qualify for the warranty, the product must not be disassembled or modified.

PV Module Manufacturers:

PV module manufacturers have a general way of addressing their products that has been subjected to the following:

  1. improper installation, application or removal, any abuse or misuse, neglect or accident and alteration which includes non-compliance with manufacturers installation guidelines and/or national electric regulations.
  2. They are also not accepting repair or modifications by someone other than an approved service technician dealing with the specific brands, and
  3. Any conditions exceeding the voltage, wind, or snow load specifications; power failure surges, lightning, flood, or fire; damage from persons, insects, animals, or industrial chemical exposure; glass breakage from impact or other events outside the supplier’s control.
  4. Cosmetic affects stemming from normal wear and tear of PV Module materials or other cosmetic variations which do not cause power output lower than what is guaranteed by the manufacturer under optimal conditions. Normal wear and tear of PV Module materials can include, but is not limited to, fading of frame colour, weathering of glass coatings, and areas of discoloration around or over individual solar cells or any part of the PV Module.
  5. Installations in locations, which in the judgment of the manufacturer may be subject to direct contact with bodies of salt water or which have been moved from their original installation location.
  6. PV Modules for which the labels containing product type or serial number have been altered, removed or made illegible.
  7. Kalaharigrid shall not be held responsible or liable to the customer or any third-party arising out of any non-performance or delay in performance due to acts of God, war, riots, strikes, fire, flood or any other cause or circumstance beyond the reasonable control of the manufacturer and the supplier.
